Help please - Why would all these warning lights come on together?

Post by iain2010 »

I have a 1994 Mk2 NA. All was fine until 4 warning lights came on at once. The lights are:

(!)
Fill up oil
Check engine
Check battery

I know for a fact at that time something alternator based failed as the voltage dipped from 18 to 15. The battery is now running flat.

My oil and brake fuild are full and the car still drives great (Obviously except the batterie is not charging).

My question is with a charging failure is it normal to have all these other warning lights come on? Id have just expected the the battery symbol.

Thanks in advance :thumleft:

Multi warning lights are a classic symptom of charging issue.

Could be alternator, or could be loom problem.

To test, with ignition on, check voltage at all 3 pins at alternator plug. All should be showing 12V+. If they do, alternator goosed. If not, then the wire not showing 12V+ has a problem in the loom.

Most prb the altanator fella. Classic signs of it failing. Check how many volts it's kicking out
