Suspension replacement advice...

Am looking at changing my suspension this year, so have some decisions to make before I start saving, am also going to polybush the car at the same time and change anything else that needs doing like the droplinks etc too.

So the options i've been considering are below...

Want the car to be better handling and wanted to drop it too, OEM cheapest but not much between that the Koni and BC coilovers, will be used for fun road days only, may be a track day if I sort it. not fussed about ti being mega hard but is just a summer 2nd car so no need for complete comfort either. If i get the Koni's i'll try pick up another set of old rebuilable struts so I can strip paint and rebuild off the car. So making me sway towards the coilovers.

Anyway, advice, opinions especially for anyone running the same setups as above. sure it will be a massive difference which ever way as still has original 21 year old stuff on at the mo...

I'm running BC coilovers and can't praise them highly enough. Not at all hard or crashy for a coilover and really give some confidence in the twisties.

Think I'm gonna go with those or something similar, just so no hassle with spring.matching, top mounts etc. as well as having the rebuilt thing. Just swap 'em over.

Any more folks running the BC's?

Also what kind of height adjustment do they have in real world use?

There looks to be a lot of height adjustment, my car is moderately lowered and I could go much lower or higher if i wanted. I haven't adjusted the hardness as of yet as it's perfect how it is for road use, but I'll be having a play with the settings when the trackday season starts in a couple of months .

Sounds perfect, some folks have said to avoid coilovers, however think i'll go for the BC's as then i've got everything in one. Don't want to lower too much, maybe 30mm ish.

Anyone else running BC's?

Also any thought's on the D2's? Seem to be about the same price...

I started out with OEM struts all round.
Then went to Yellow billies all round after both N/S struts started leaking.
Then went to OEMs on the front after a billie failed an MOT.
Then replaced the rears with more Yellow billies.

Front top mounts have been replaced with OEM.
Still on original rear top mounts.


The yellow billies all round felt very firm but I got used to it.
OEM front/yellow billies rear works well if you have bumpy roads.

Whatever you put on will feel superb compared to 21 yr old shocks!

If you go away from OEM shocks tell your insurer so they dont void your policy for undeclared mods if you ever have a claim. The yellow billies make no difference to the premium on the policies I have had over the years.

I've had D2s on a previous car (not MR2) and they were so hard they were completely unsuitable for road use. I'd stick with the BCs!

Hi mate,

You'd be best replacing all the bushes on the suspension while you're there. The old ones will be completely perished and way past their best by now.

I have Tein coilovers on mine just now, their leaking so going to replace with new OEM rebuildable struts and eibach springs, not sure if the Tein top mounts will work, I may need to get new OEM mounts too.

The BCs will come with droplinks and topmounts.

Are you looking at the standard BCs or the inverted strut model?

don't really know the difference, just want to get the total price for everything I'll need so I can get saving.

So if they need top mounts, drop links etc. will need to price up those too.

Going to do all ball joints and get car polybushed at the same time and if cash will stretch uprate the ARB's to whitelines too.

Hi, Well if you get stock rebuildable struts, if and when they break you can rebuild each one cheaply, so much easier than messing about with coilovers...Which is another reason for my choice.

Was thinking that with the rebuildables, might look at the Koni's nearer the time, would just want another set to sandblast and repaint ready to go on while the old ones are still rolling, which is why I'm moving towards the coilovers. Don't do much mileage and I like the adjustable height too...

You can buy the rebuildable struts brand new to save messing about with sand blasting and painting.

The konis will need rebuildable struts also, but the ride is fantastic.

Hey mate,

I just had the BC Racing BR coilovers fitted yesterday mate.

For the money they are brilliant they also came with front pillowball topmounts, rear uprated standard topmounts, new droplinks

I had Tein Superstreets before and i rate them highly but these IMO are just as good.

On the softer settings they are super comfortable too and so easy to adjust.

I was in exactly the same dilemma as you when i had to replace my Tein Superstreets. I am really happy with my decision on the BC's.
