Who else is this irrational?

Post by KarlBristol »

I was reading the "How often do you drive your 2" thread and it got me thinking about my car situation.

My 22 year old MR2 lives nicely polished under a specialist fitted dust sheet in my garage. However my 10k Mercedes (which is one of only 25) sits on the driveway exposed to all elements and bird poo.

Anyone else have the same irrational love for their 2? lol

Mate, the MR2 is just a class car!lol. Especially the Mk1 and 2. I`m not joking I feel so happy driving a 2 nothing else floats my boat modern car wise at all. I have my van for work and keeping my rev1 either garaged or undercover through the winter every year now. Next year I shall by a 300 quid banger to thrash over winter time then scrap it and drive the MR over spring/summer again.

I dont think it`s crazy. I think these cars have gotten to the point now where you dont see many on the road everyday, its worth getting them done up and keeping them nice for as long as you can and they will always turn heads as much as any modern day motor, maybe more so. Unless you have a Porsche or an Elise maybe something like that, then what else puts the same kind of grin on your face everytime you drive it? And certainly not for the money you can pick an MR2 up for. Throw a few grand at an MR and it competes with cars much higher in value. Sure a scooby sticks to the road like glue or a brand spanking new merc is comfort and quality, but the MR is just a raw sporty car that is just amazing fun, and I cant wait until the summer and I cant wait until mine is finally 100percent where I want it to be! :thumleft:

Just have to say aswell, other people dont understand it do they, passion for MR2`s I mean  My brother in law has a Jag XF now and previously he had a Mazda RX8 5 speed box one from new. He plonked it on my parents drive (the RX8) and my Dad was saying, `bet you would like that wouldnt you..` And I was like, well, no because I have a twenty year old MR2 Turbo that I`m getting sorted! lol. It`s not that I couldnt run to a newer car thesedays I just dont want one!

Special edition C230 Kompressor Evo Panoramic - as its the special edition it has electric everything, sat nav, tv, phone, the works. I've heard of anti-dazzle rear mirror but never anti-dazzle wingmirrors till I bought this car, lol. It is very very different from the MR2.

I think around 50 were originally made but unfortunately there are only 25 left on UK roads :(

I do like how the MR2 feels when you drive it - a proper car. I find that I can do a trip in a newer car and not "feel" the road... hard to explain.

I've got the 15 year old MR2 and 16 year old Alfa 155 tucked up in the garage and the new boring stuff outside in the cold.

Value of a car plays no part in what makes a good car, and the good cars (in my opinion) are the ones that get pampered :thumleft:

Thats not irrational, i do something similar and i know why. My '2 is 20 years old and unbelievably un-standard, it has dan levels of reliability, not toyota levels. I **** myself every time i have to turn it on / unlock it. Something is bound to go wrong. However my 3 series is untouched, unworried about and never gives me problems. Granted my 3' is worth less than my '2 but it'd still be true if it were a 20 grand car. I treat the '2 like its fragile because i believe it is.

I'm pleased to see I'm not alone :) - the misses still doesn't understand, lol

I do believe that given another 5 years or so they will be very rare cars, I'm doing my best to start bringing mine back to a great condition.

Anyone else notice that so many seem MK2s seem to be being broken recently - really think that they're starting to dissapear :(

The car i have driven the most over the last 3 years has been my MR2, I have driven a few other cars but not a lot, mostly vans and a van doesnt compare to a MR2

It seems to be a buyers market for the MR2, I think I might flog mine and get another!

They seem to be going for nothing at the moment

If I had any real land with my property it would look like a car parking lot in no time at all, lol ... (looks through rightmove to buy a new house  lol)

I try and not drive my 2 at all because I like to keep it in excellent condition and I dont trust leaving/driving it in public. Its currently garaged but I move it out to clean it every month..

Me too, is garaged over winter, don't drive in the wet and we have the far newer 2 other cars sat on the drive. My Accord is currently blue over brown due to country roads :) ...
