What dose c/opn relay in the engine compartment fuse box mean or what dose it control,

The circuit opening relay is for the fuel pump

Correct.

More specifically, it has a double ended coil. One end pulls the relay in when cranking, engaging the fuel pump.

When the engine fires, the first coil is switched off (since no more cranking), but the ECU pulls in the other end of the coil, re-engaging the fuel pump.

If the engine is stalled but igntion is still live, ECU will terminate it's signal to the relay, causing fuel pump to swtich off. e.g. in event of accident.
