I've looked at these too. I also wondered if they're any good.
the only thing I can add is that I've bought other stuff from this ebayer and have had no problems and fast postage.

a short throw/quick shift kit is very easy to make yourself for next to nothing.
i made mine from a small peice of aluminium sheet and some washers, might be a bit ghetto but works well. :)

What is the normal cost of purchasing one rather than having to bid on ebay?
How easy are they to install? They look simple enough in kit form but I don't want anything on my car to be disrupted just to fit one of these.

I have had 1 fitted to mine for over a year. and i still appreiate it now. I see other MR2's with long sticks which i think now look odd. It was easy to fit, and took just over an hour. I also fitted the original rev3+ gearknob.
The only difference between the mk1 and mk2 is the interior trim around the shifter. once that is removed then the the mechanism is the same.

The price is really cheap, a b+m would set you back around £150.

possible cheaper option

I've had one in my car for about a year now and think it's great. I've since been told that a Mk2 stick can be used as a quick shift but you may need to check this.

I've just had a Mk1 stick cut down and welded with the thread on the top. Change is smoother and cooler than haagen daaz...

You could easily cut a bit off the stock gearstick then just use a stock and die and thread a little more.

i have the original drop plate and short shift kit from the states if anyone wants any pics am sure it would be easy to fabricate a kit up if you had the right kit to do it as its nothing complex, I will take pics soon anyway as I will soon be fitting it as I got it 4 years ago ! DOH !

It's worth bidding on Ebay, I got mine for £22, just fitted it today. It didn't take long at all. The hardest part was taking out all those screws from the centre console....! The seller even emailed an instllation guide. I did find the new bolts a tad too long though so I had to cut them down. Not used it in anger yet, just a small test drive. It felt sweet though, I'll keep you posted....!

Seems ok to me. Nice and chunky...

I fitted one of these yesterday, didn't come with any instructions but straightforward enough, took about 1 hour all through.

My only complaint is that the stainless steel knob isn't quite straight - but wan be sorted out with a dob or Araldite.

Ive got that exact short shifter kit that you were looking at, it really is a good buy and looks the dogs danglies when its install (took about an hour). I got mine for £30 quid i think it was.
Loks even better when you get one of Rhonsmr2 new leather gaitors round it too!
hope you managed to get it!
