I bought a straight pipe to replace my Cat Convertor few months ago. the link from where i bought the part is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350403726325? ... 3D1&_rdc=1 i finally got the time to send the car to the garage in Mumbai and have come up with two issues:
1. No nuts bolts and gaskets in the packing. that should not be such an issue as i will have the gasket made here.
2. the MAJOR problom is that whilst one end fits into the bolts provided and gets bolted on to the two bolts, there is no place to bolt on the other end of the pipe that i purchased. the pipe that is to be connected (the one that goes into the exhaust) onto the pipe i bought has no place for bolts. my mechanic sys that he will have to fabricate a connecting pipe that has two bolts. he will weld on the pipe into the fabricated piece and then bolt that onto the pipe i bought.
this is going to further cost me nearly another 100 quid. i find it unusual for someone to design a custom part for a car that has plate for 2 botls to go on both ends whereas when you go onto to actually fit it, one finds the in the car it will bolt onto only one end. How am i to fix the other end into the pipe that goes into the exhaust. moreover the diameter of the pipe may be different.
i have taken photos of the problom. for those who want to see them, pls pm me your email id and i could mail you pics of the actual parts as they are today so you could understand the problom better. i havent yet figured out how to upload the pics to IMOC

Hi mate
From the pictures your car is an early car ?, which doesn't actually have a catalytic converter fitted (or has the wrong exhaust fitted )
The box that you assumed was the cat, is a resonator box and is part of the rear box
The options you have is to cut off the resonator box and weld on a flange to mate up with the de-cat pipe you bought, or change the whole rear box as well, for a later type, or go for a stainless system
But i dont know what benefit you will gain swapping a resonator box for a straight de-cat pipe ????
This is what an exhaust with a catalytic converter would look like
top one is with de-cat fitted, middle one with standard cat ,bottom one is a turbo exhaust so ignore that
your exhaust type

the car is a 1990 UK Spec mk2 NA, so u r right it sure is an early car. Wow..... what a revelation. so in essence she actually does not have a convertor. much ado about nothing.
What does a resonator box do anyway? my primary goal was to get some HP boost by removing the convertor. so the question is"will i get any HP boost in case we were to remove the resonator?"
if the answer is NO..........then i might as well leave it the way it is. once i go in for an exhaust upgrade then we can think about removing the resonator box as well.
thanks a ton for your help. appreciate it mate.
