Oil pressure question

Post by Tellso »

Hi guys, on a tubby what kind of oil pressure should i expect from normal everyday driving - by normal i mean taking it moderately easy :)

I have an oil pressure gauge and it usually sits around 3-3.5bar when in motion. And when idling drops right down. I would expect it to drop but it practically hits between 0 and 0.5 mark as a rough guide. Is that right or should i be worried?

Cheers

Operating oil pressures should be in the BGB. Idle I'd expect to see 1.5-2bar at least.

Don't bank on it, my experience of the senders for low oil pressure is that they only trigger when its REALLY low, like 0.3bar or something, i.e. engine lunching territory!

idle oil pressure: 4.3 psi or more

at 3000 rpm: 36 - 71 psi

Brilliant, thanks guys. The gauge was a pretty damned expensive one so hopefully accurate. Ill check my figures... Great help :thumleft:

.... so based on those figures in PSI, my readings seem about correct (1Bar = 14.56PSI)?

Only i have an indicator that flashes red when my gauges go over or under a certain amount and its been set to go off or flash like mad when the oil pressure drops too much which obviously only happens at idle. I guess theyve just set it too low. It still runs/idles perfectly :D

i see 1.5-2.0bar at idle (engine warm) and 3.5-4.0bar on cruise (2.5k-3.5k rpm) after a spirited drive it does drop though, the apexi turbo is oil cooled so that may be the reason for this, usually goes no lower than 2.8bar on cruise though, idle goes down to 1.0-1.2ish @900rpm)
cold figures are much higher though the tell tale on the spa gauge im using sees oil pressure has peaked at 7.0bar!!
