[Mk2] [NA] Air Filter Induction Kits...

Post by ShrewdPhoenix »

So, I've had the MR2 for 8 months now, and I think it's time to start with a few mods. The most sensible one to start with appears to be an Air filter induction kit. Only question is, which one? After a few hours of research on the internet I've come up with a few questions. I don't really know a lot about cars mechanically (yet) so I thought I'd appeal to the combined knowledge of IMOC.

Paper or foam?

Reusable or disposable filters?

Partially guarded from hot engine bay air or completely enclosed with a cold air feed pipe?

A lot of kits seem to be aimed at Turbos, is it worth doing it for an NA?

The Pipercross Viper VFC seems to be a good induction kit, but I've only been able to find reviews for this kit from audi/alfa/vauxhall/honda/lexus drivers. Is this not a good choice for an MR2 or are there chavvy undertones to it that I'm missing?

I look forward to your thoughts...

Don't think induction kits make much of a difference maybe a few bhp. They usually are added more for the induction sound. I used to have one of these

As far as which one to go for think performance wise theres little difference

if your not bothered about the sound you could just go for a k&n panel filter. Would give the same performance as a cone.

You want a different Pipercross. A PK err, something. I don't think it makes any real difference but it was my second mod and worth it for the sound alone. 5 yrs on I still have it...
