[Mk2] [NA] Urgent reply needed! Front brake disc/pads removal STUCK!

Post by south_wales_MR2 »

Hi there,

I ordered my front brakes and discs a week ago from camskill, I've now gone to do the job and within 20mins im already stuck!

I've gone to remove the two securing bolts from behind the brake disc that holds the caliper bracket in place.

Now they are not moving when I go to take them off. Ive sprayed them with plus-gas to help loosen them, but Im not 100% sure im even 'undoing' the bolt or not. With the wheel off im putting pressure on clockwise. Is this right?! Seems to be the right way to undo the thread but didnt want to take a hammer to it before double checking im doing it in the right rotation!

Stupid question I know, but it just wont budge!

Any help would be great!

you can remove the disc by just taking the caliper off and removing the pads. It's a bit fiddly but it can be done.

If you are facing the head of the bolt you turn anti-clockwise to undo (left loosy, righty tighty)...so if you are facing the wheel, and the bolt head is facing away from you- clockwise would be correct :thumleft:

If you are definately talking about the two bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the hub then I would soak in WD40, heat gun, then try again...they do get hot so may well be tight in there!

Good luck :eye:

WD40 won't really help with these bolts. You need 24" breaker bar if they haven't been removed in a while. Or put a tube over the end of a shorter wrench (use a fixed head otherwise you will wreck the ratchet).

ALL bolts relating to the brakes have standard threads - counter-clockwise to remove.

WD40 and a couple cycles of hot / cold freed these bolts up fine on my brackets, guess it depends how badly seized they are

I had an air gun on mine, long wrench, and GT85 (I think its called) Only thing that moved them was a good old heat up with a portable gas blowtorch from B&Q. Thney were rusted to hell, also get some new ones as you will be putting the same rusted bolts back in with probably rounded heads also. If you were nearer id help but im in Ebbw Vale #-o
