[Mk2] [Turbo] speaker problem

Post by swaggansway »

I have recently upgraded all my ice. I have focals in the doors running of a genesis amp, my problem is that the driver side speaker is much quieter than the other side. I have tried everything such as swapping inputs and playing with levels etc to no avail. is it possible that the speaker wire is too close to the kick panel fusebox therefore interfering with signal? :pale:

Are you running xovers in the doors? Do you have the right speaker connected to the right output of the xover.

Simple thing is to try other speaker in this door and vice versa to rule out speaker. then swap outputs on the amp to rulle out amp.

You have got the polarity right on the speakers haven't you ?
Have you run new wires into the doors ?
Is there a good seal round the speaker to the door, as round the speaker needs to be sealed, because if the sound waves from the back come round to the front they cancel each other out.
The crossovers should be as close to the midbass as practically possible, long wire runs will alter the frequencies.

Hi check the residance of the original door loom speaker wiring if your using it, I have repaired a few over the years the copper wire breaks inside the insulation to make an intermittant connection.

Or in a more irritating case if all the other strands inside the sheith break apart from 1 the volt drop over it (as now the wires residance will be slightly higher) will result in a quieter speaker.

If they are ok try it back at the head unit / amp, if it still does it there and you have swapped speaker over for the other side to rule speakers out you have a faulty head unit (the speaker wires on most DON'T LIKE being touched to the car body / bare metal this damaged the amp chip in the head unit).

Or if using amp swap left and rigth input signal (phono cables) round and see if it swappes sides, i it does it proves its not the amp but the head unit or possibly phono cable.

Maybe the pre amp out on the head unit is defective or balance / fade is set to one side L / R or front / back more than the other.

Basically rule everything out, speakers generally don't fail unless over powered and voice coil cooks / goes open circuit.

There is not much in a car that will have much influence over amplified audio signal from an interferance point of view, really only a electromagentic puls form a Nuke will cause an issue which usually results in total destruction.

Hope this helps
