It runs - the next instalment

Post by Jonjeffryes »

:D Another Saturday at the garage.....deep joy, after the euphoria of getting the new engine running....it's down to reality to work toward recomissioning the car as it's sat for over a year.

I thought I'd struck lucky as my local breakers had a mk2 MR2 just in. I thought I'd be able to take the clutch slave cylinder from this and get my car mobile as mine burst the first time I put my foot on the clutch.....unfortunately the engine is different....I didn't realise there were different engines! So no clutch slave then.

So I've spent today completing the engine installation....coolant has been drained and refilled with new....system bled and several cycles of warm up/ cool down and getting the cooling fan to cut in....I'm now happy with the way the engine runs.

There's a couple of drips from a coolant hose under the intake manifold...just a clip to tighten....more worrying is a bad oil leak from one driveshaft oil seal...I know I should have fitted new

Also the sump leaks so that will need changing....apart from that and the clutch slave, everything seems ok engine wise.

The rear brakes were fun....the callipers completely seized on the sliders...the po had used coppa-slip which had solidified nicely ](*,)...it took a bloody great hammer to free the sliders....corrosion cleared up and much cleaning and lubricating plus a strip and clean of the hand brake mechanisms has sorted the brakes.....I've thrown the lot back together with new drop links.

The rear bumper has been changed for a Uk model after the original was burnt in the engine blow up

The only issue now is that the rear lights and number plate lights will not work....indicators work so there's power getting there..I'll have to have a ferret about with the wiring.

So, to finish I need a clutch slave cylinder, an engine sump..oh and the top mount for the air-conditioning compressor...the one that carries the tensioner wheel ...I guess I somehow I managed to bin this part ](*,)

Anyone have these bits please pm me and I'll exchange for beer tokens :thumleft:
