I have a set of Focal 165VR's. They're pretty damn awesome speakers, but they did cost the best part of £200.

Focal are renowned for their quality though, so i'm sure these are pretty good too :thumleft:

Nice speakers for the money. Even with 60WRMS, they will be reasonably loud due to their sensitivity. In fact, you can work out the peak SPL using SPL = sensitivity + 10 log (amp power), which is about 110dB. Thats peak though, and doesnt tell you anything about how they will sound at that kind of level.

TBH though, you shouldn't but the Focals if you are after something loud, they are more for quality.

I used Silent Coat in mine:

Watch out for cheap Ebay specials - often it is just flashing tape, which isnt the same, and normally much thinner.

The Vibe's have a lower sensitivity, and again going back to that equation, there is only going to be a couple dB difference.

What are you going to amp them with?

I am using a kenwood, kdc-w4537ua

sub wire is 12gauge copper

components will use http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT from the crossovers supplied with the speakers mounted on the amp deck with there own wire. so 2 lots of double cable running to each door.

I think I want 2 more seekers in piller posts to achieve a surround sound effect!

the signal wire from hu to amp is top quality from car audio shop. gold conecters where applicable and speakers soldered straight on.

do I need sound killer stuff in doors, it seems a tad expensive....might go to scrap yard and use the stuff under the carpets :-k

what ya reckon

oh I only wired the amps in series as the wire is very wide.....so wide I had a job clamping it on the amps lol

also I only have one sub type output on (low out) on that hu, so have soldered female gold audio jacks on the rear output (hi) from hu... Image ..the sencore amp does have hi input port but is very small and I can't find adapters/plugs for that, so will I need this... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HI-LEVEL ... ioQ5fVideo

can I use a old fiber pillow to stuff ma woofer?

bet ya wish ya nvr asked now

Absolutely worth getting proper deadening on the doors if you are amping - your speakers can go louder without distorting, and LF response will be improved, and it will reduce rattles from the doors. You don't have to do the whole door, but the more you do the better. its more important around the speaker though of course.

As for the stuffing, there is a bit of an art to that lol, you don't just whack it in there. The amount you put in will change the frequency response of the speaker.

I have a couple sheets left, I haven't finished doing the doors though - Im at the 'turn it up and find the rattles' stage now, so I'm going to need it to kill the problem areas!

And yeah, you would need Speaker level to Line level adapters - just watch out for noise that can be introduced by these.

I have sound deadening and wave diffuser material in my doors. I had it installed at the same time as my Focals though, so i have no idea whether it made any difference.

I can say however that i can have my stereo up rather loud, get out the car and shut the door, and i can barely hear it...so i'm guessing it must work

Oh, and my entire system is comprised of my Focal components and a 10" sub, all powered off a single amp. The sound is perfect, and anything more than that would just be overkill and would detract from the quality of the Focal speakers.
