your other classic?

Post by mulaz »

Have any other members got another classic? apart from your mr2
i recently picked up a 1995 citroen ax for £100 with full tax and test as my daily drive to work from a work friend .

a great car under 700kg, does over 60mpg!.

It was designed in the 80's with weight saving as the main priority, plastic hatch back , light weight bumpers.
forward to 2011 most modern mini hatchbacks have every extra known to man, air bags , electric windows, power steering, cruise control etc. more weight for the small car to drag around.

i have spend the last few day fitting a new rear beam axle and apart from one hole to patch in the driver sill this little car is a cracker.
This car compliments my mk2 as both are timeless classics worlds apart from modern day bland cars.

Yes I can see how it compliments your MK2. I have another car that's not quite as old but I'm hoping that if I keep hold of it for a few years it might become a true classic. What do you think?

I've got a Capri with a Vauxhall 2 litre XE fitted. Although currently on flea bay at the minute, hope it sells tomorrow night when it finishes!

Geat to see another like minded mk2 owner.
another classic in the making and a great car for the magic MPG
why spend £1000's to get to work when most of the time it sits in the car park and depreciates day by day
get another classic car for work work that can only go up in value.

i have to admit the other half has a newer punto , but it lacks any soul and after driving a bunch of newer small cars they all feel the same. full of technology that puts you the driver further away from the road.

one day your average small hatch back will drive and feel like a rolls royce with all the exra's fitted but who enojoys driving a rolls!

Give me a honest cheap car easy to fix lots of MPG and drives well.
i dont think i can name any car today that does that?.

I drive a 1985 Golf CL day to day. Cheap to run and simple to work on. Old VWs are so sturdy as well. When I got it it had been stood in a field untouched for 4 years and required very little work to start up and get through it's mot.

My daily commuter is a 1993 Honda XL600V Transalp. I know it’s not a car but it’s still a classic bike.

X19 cool
i remember when i was a young one many moons ago in my bright yellow Triumph TR7 ( yes TR7) Racing a X19 along next to the gateshead stadium when all of a sudden we had to brake, the X19 went backwards.
i then knew my brakes were crap compared to the little x19

i have always had respect for these rust buckets... to be honest all cars were rust buckets in the 70's and 80's some more than others :thumleft:

Dear god. That's saying something. If your brakes were worse than the X1/9.....

Terrifying :)

I love the old Capri's, prefer the mk1s cause of the little chrome side vent but my dad used to have a 2.8i which was a march engineering F1 or something like that and that was beautiful.

You say that like it's bad? :)

My insurance policy defines the X1/9 as classic and asks only £89 in return. That's a far more definitive source in my book.

MGB's are very cool.. i had a roadster in the 80's
But they have handling thats nothing like a sportscar, more like a tractor!
I still has a soft spot for them.

you must have a busy life keeping a two and a MGB running

err yes a bit busy :)

the mg has konis all round so it's better than most people expect. Really firm on the turn in but it bit lumpy at the back. Even so for a 41 year old car it's still the nuts. it also has an exhaust note from heaven....

i am thinking of selling it tho because keeping two cars which both require love and care is not easy!

just got to finish a few bits on it before the summer and will probably flog it...

one problem with mgs is the price...they go from anything from £500 to £10 000 so it can be hard to work out where your own sits on that scale :)

Sadly not since they don’t seem interested in 2 wheel classics

This is my other classic car a 1979 Toyota Celica TA23. Me and my dad had been resurrecting this car from a scrap. I have the intentions to mod this into a 70's style modded cars i.e. TRD ducktail, lowered, TRD front spiltter and 13x8 ET0 Enkei Compe wheels

And with my dad's TA23 Celica during the previous classic car shows in my country :) My dad's Celica will always be a stock standard TA23 though :D
