Best place for stock springs and dampers?

Post by dylbie »

Hi all, just a quickie. Where's the best place to buy stock springs and dampers?

Are they easy to replace just using axle stands, and are there any tricky bits? I did my beemer suspension last year but used a pit, but even then some parts of that were a pain.

You can do it easily on stands. possible isues are things seized and filthy bolts/nuts, you may also require new droplinks as most people require a grinder to remove them.

As for standard springs, i'm not sure. You can try toyota or a motor factor. uprated spring sets are ~£110-£120

Cheers chaps.

I was just gonna make do with some standard ones as I don't have the funds for some Koni's right now and I just wanna get the car back on the road. I read somewhere a while back, that KYBs work best with standard springs.

Are these standard? They seem a bit pricey. Would Toyota be cheaper?

If you are going to upgrade in the future, you could just buy some uprated springs now which would probably work out cheaper than standard. And when you do upgrade, you would be able to sell the springs on actually getting some money back. I'm not sure how many people wouild buy second hand standard springs?

Is there anything wrong with your suspension at the moment? or is it old and tired?

It's fooked. One of the rear dampers has collapsed and all the springs feel really soft.

I think I'm gonna get the KYBs for now. Are the apex springs a good combo with these? I've read on here people have found the KYBs a bit unforgiving, with certain springs.

I'm gonna do the bushes and drop links as well. Could anyone recommend a good bush kit with everything in it, or do some things have to be bought separately?

Cheers

I had Apex springs with KYB GR-2's and I thought it was good - quite hard and more crashy over bumps than standard, but I liked it - felt like it was worth uprating!! I bought the springs from here and would highly recommend the service I received..
