[Mk2] [Generic] Stereo loses memory randomly

This only happens now and then, I can leave the car for a few days, just in and it starts up where it left off, other times when I put fuel in and start it back up it loses its memory from where the CD/radio stations where

Could it be wiring, or just a sh1te stereo system in the car? It's just a cheapo dvd thingy

It could well be wiring Stevie depends how it was fitted and what fuses are used as I have seen glass fuses give intermittent faults and being an intermittent fault its harder to find, I would put a new good earth wire on and if that fails put a new permanent live wire straight to the battery with a fuse close to the battery (cut the wire and put a lucar connector on each end and push them on to a 10 amp blade fuse) any problems give me a shout.

My first 406 coupe did this, and it reset all bass settings as well, was faulty stereo

does your stereo have a red and yellow wire with push connectors? If so swap the wires over red to yellow and vice versa.
