[Mk2] [Turbo] **HELP** Coolant issues!

Post by MikeyGTS »

Hi folks,

My car is a Rev 3 Turbo.
The past while i have been leeking coolant, very slowly. My temp guage sometime goes pretty high, and sometimes the temp goes way down too, very strange?

But after spending ages looking, it appears i have a hairline crack in my radiator neck. Does this mean i need to replace the whole radiator?

If so, where and what is best.

Thanks for reading folks,

Mikey!

If it were me bud i'd just get a new rad. It'll save any problems in the future and will last another 10 years.

Replace the thermostat whilst your doing the coolant. Coolant is expensive, so better to only do the job once but do it right.

Just a small update. Im stuck. Please dont laugh lol....

I thought my coolant was low, so i decided to top op my coolant slightly. But it appears i have had plenty, and due to this the coolant has came up and is now full to the brim. Is this a problem?

It is also slightly brown, but i believe this is normal?

And finaly, why would my temp guage be going up and down during driving. For example. Once upto tempterature, it sometimes dips slighly, but not much, and when i give the car stick, it seems to be fine until im at low speeds again, and it will begin to rise, quite alot.

Anyone have any ideas? Could all this be due to a small hairline crack in the rad neck? Even though there is plenty coolant.

Thanks folks

Where are you pouring your coolant into? Rad cap or expansion bottle?

I'd renew the rad, the thermostat and coolant. All good preventative maintenance.

Don't forget to run the car on fast idle for 5-6 mins with the rad cap at the first position.
