Leaking T bar seals

Post by TJS »

Hello all, after changing the doors on my 91 Mk2 Rev 2 NA T bar due to a rust issue with both, I now have created a new issue. The driver’s side seal around the top of the window now seems to be letting water in (never leaked before  ).

After trying for the past week to solve the issue with silicone etc, I still have the issue. I think the only solution now is to replace the seal that is entrapped in the T bar roof panel and the seal that runs around the roof opening and down the door.

I have treid adjusting the glass using the glass runner adjustment (two locking bolts). Otherwise the door lines up perfect.

I have a few questions: #-o

Does anyone have the part numbers? And the expanded drawings?

What would be the best source to buy them new?

Would it be worth buying used import seals?

I have seen them advertised new on ebay at around £230 (just the body work seals but both sides). I didn’t pay a huge amount for the car so this seems like ridiculous money.I guess Toyota probably want your left nut for a set

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, I am suffering from a similar problem. I have replaced the seal which I bought from MR2-ben (imported new seal £100) though Toyota sell them for £137. Mine is still leaking and driving me insane...I have NO idea where to go from here. Sorry man but if you find anything out let me know!!!

Good luck!

Night mare! will let you know If I find a solution. In theory at least, if all the seals are replaced the only adjustment that could make a difference is the two bolts that adjust the widow towards/away from the seal. Fingers crossed. Looks like my bargain project car is going to start costing then :pale:

Thanks for the heads up there, I have had a good look through the threads. There doesn't seem to be any definative solution. A case of replace the seals and see maybe? Just need to find the best source now.

silicon and cling film or spacing out the body brackets or eccentric guides for the mounting holes all work in their own way and are a lot cheaper than new seals :thumleft:

i just went to b&q and got some seal strip from there and it worked a treat, the stuff you put round doors and windows. sticky on one side soft on the other.
