[Mk2] [NA] New to MR2 and leaking T- Bar...help!

Post by 10thanni »

Hi,

A few weeks ago bought an anniversary MR2 and love it to bits. I have now discovered how to have a shower inside the car though, eek. I promptly ordered a door seal and T-Bar seal for the glass and had it fitted today. Unfortunately, the local garage has not only not solved it but it seems to be worse. I now have a draft too. The window doesn't close flush on the seal which I presume means the window is out? Maybe an obvious question but can anyone give any ideas or had experience of this? There seems to be a gap between the window and the now new seal. The door is flush by the way. Any hints, info would be really helpful. I am based just outside Oxford (in Bicester)...in case anyone knows someone. Oh, its an N reg Rev 3 Anniversary Model.

Thanks!!!

P.S. These things really put a smile on your face.

Leaks

Sorry to hear about your problem.
Don't have any practical advice as my car has a solid roof. I did however think (and this might be too obvious) can you not go back to the garage as you have paid for work that has not cured the problem.
The only other thing is to use a good quality silicone sealant and apply to any edges that look like they don't fit etc.

Good luck anyway

cheers

Dave

Thanks, yea I will be returning but in a weeks time is when they have a slot...but more rain forecast. I am actually taking it to another garage on Thursday but wondered if anyone was familiar with this kinda thing.

Thanks for your reply. Still love it to bits! :-)

plenty of topics in here for fixing leaking t-bars but if you've paid a garage to do work then they'll walk away if you get someone else to touch it in the meantime.

Thanks Allan...it's kinda complicated as the garage actually belongs to a friend, oops. Though of course you are right.

Essentially though I am just looking for experience...whether anyone has had a window that is 'out' or a T-Bar not fitting properly and can shed light on the subject. I have had a good look through the posts on here and they are very helpful. I think maybe the problem is the window...dunno. Tomorrow gonna look at everything with a ruler I think and try to work out actually whether the problem is the new seal, the door, the window, the pillar...who knows?!!

you can alter the window positioning to fit it against the seals so that's a possibility of being out of alignment after a fix. The sticky in the mechanical section for the BGB will show you how to check and adjust this
