Are they having a xxxx laugh?????

Post by Morphius_MR2 »

Hi All,
Just phoned my local MrT for a price to supply and fit a new clutch on my 1990 Tubby, and the total cost:-
£644.72!!!!!!!!! WTF

So if anyone knows of someone in the South Wales area that can fit a clutch to my Tubby please let me know.

I had a new clutch fitted to my UK N/A for £155 and the mechanic said it was the first MR2 clutch he has ever changed, and it will definately be the last
Shame coz he done a good job 2!

So if anyone can help please get in touch. Cheers.
Rant over

Buy a performance clutch from the likes of www.twosrus.co.uk and get any clutch fitter fit it they have the most experience after all. I had my SPEC clutch fitted before the engine went in so was only charged £20 but on my old MK1 MR CLUTCH quoted £108 to fit a clutch I supplied.

Hi,

A mate of mine at work has just had the same problem - his clutch has gone. His is pushing around 320bhp too...

Anyway, he has ordered a clutch from www.twosrus.co.uk, and has found a garage local to him, where the owner/mechanic owns a rev 2 and rev1 mr2!!

He has booked it in for tuesday. The garage is actually in Garseinon in swansea ( I think thats how its spellt!!! ;) ) - I'll find out how it went when he gets his car back!

I also had a clutch changed on my previous rev 2 n/a by toyota world in bridgend, and it ended up costing me just over £600 (even with the cheaper "high quality alternative" clutch), as they allegedly couldn`t get the starter motor off without breaking it, so new starter motor too.... :(

So - I think I'll try somewhere else to get my alternator/aux belt checked out! Lol.

Cheers dude, would appreciate if you could let me know how it went and how much it cost him.
The quote I got was Toyota World in Bridgend, reakky dont wanna take it there as all their mechanics look about 12 and cant have much, if any experience of MK2,s as their to young.

Again cheers dude and keep me posted :D

Hi,

Don't know anywhere in south Wales, but I got my clutch and cambelt done in Worcester for £500, much cheaper than MrT (n/a this is), and he said he wouldn't do another for that price. Seems they can be a bu88er!!

Smoke me a kipper, skipper. :rambo:

theres a guy julian cooper in skewen owns "coopers cars" 01792 818186 or 07790 359325. used to work for stadium toyota in skewen knows toyotas inside out. worked on my turbo and about 3 mates n/a's. very good and reasonable (1/2 of toyotas price to fit a timing belt), should be able to help you.
