Muffin in a Starlet - Snake Pass Killer Highway

Snake pass is a road that links up Sheffield and Manchester, anyone that knows it will understand it is the ultimate road, but left in the wrong hands and u will die, memorials and flowers are sprewn along the whole stretch practically.

Anyway, was doing 70mph on one of the few long straights on the hill top (60mph road) Happy as can be. Then I see coming the other way one of those numpty Starlet's trying to overtake 4 cars.... staright away I'm on the horn and the guy just won't chicken out, so I then get on the brakes sharpish, unfortunately eventually locking on front right wheel up, and come to a stand still on the grass verge on my left, him flying past me on my right, still not completing his stupid overtaking manoevre! What a wan*** U wouldn't do it on a motorway (if u could) so why try it here!

I didn't think of it at the time, but I should have turned round, gone after him and got his number plate and give him some abuse.

On the way back from the bluewater meet i nearly died, couldnt be

not far from home and this guy came onto my side of the road from going to
fast, if i was 2mins faster we wouldve hit head on.

Know what ya mean buddy, been over there a few times & seen some silly stunts, shame, as it's an awesome road!!! but never seen anything as mad as that!!!

It amazes me that people are allowed to act so dangerously.
If you'd got his number and told the police they'd be unlikely to do anything due to lack of proof. I've even heard that they won't prosecute even with video evidence from the public

Walk the streets with a gun and a whole bunch of armed police will (rightly so) be over you within 5 minutes.

Why aren't they bothered about dangerous driving? Too difficult to prove? Even if they did catch you it's most likely just a fine & points

It's the same problem in other countries too.
If you want to murder someone, you run them over rather than shoot/stab/poison them as the sentence is MUCH lighter.

Takes some beating, in fact dont think it will take beating. Even in my stupid days, I dont think I could do anything that stupid.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to drive along merrily and all of a sudden I'm screaming at the windscreen!I use the horn extremely rarely (and never at those times) I think the prats on the roads these days are SOooooo much more dangerous than even a couple of years ago.

I blame it on the "Fast and Furious "

Yes you could have followed him and dished out some corrective therapy but then of course he would have your number and you may have got caught up in some type of vendetta.

I say you took the best course of action mate, just get out of the way and let them hit a tree

Please don't call the Starlet a numpty car (even though the owner sounds like a complete willy).

I used to own one many moons ago...and believe me, round town they would crucify my MR2 turbo. 1.3ltr turbo, 135hp stock. Mine was 210 at the hubs. Nothing could touch it from a standstill...until about 60, when the tiny lump lost out to bigger motors with more torque.

They are an awesome car and I'd gladly have another as a daily driver

But on the post you made...that's terrible. I think most people have had near misses from time to time, but that's just plain mental.

Hey night, well it is a numpty car in that it looks like Noddy would drive something similar hehe But yeah, I've seen a few that have those huuuge bonnet scoop things and they must be the souped up ones I assume (unless it's all show and no go).

This one didn't look tuned, perhaps a standard 1.1 or something? Don't have a clue what power it had, but it looked like none as it wasn't making much progress as I was coming up.

I can still quite clearly remember that day. grr.

You can tell if it's the import turbo car from the scoop in the bonnet (kind of rounded). From 1990 onwards, until I think about 1995-6 it became the EP91 or Glanza V...same basic shape but more modern. Practically the same power etc too.

On hills, unless he was starting in 2nd when he pulled out, he would struggle as they run out of puff on the hills. But on a straight road, you'd not have seen him if he'd driven it right.

I remember driving that thing round the ring roads of manchester, keeping it above 3k in any gear it was awesome...massive torque steer, lighting up the wheels in 4th lol.

Noddy wouldn't drive one, he'd have a mk3 MR2.

Ah the memories...

Has to be said though that Renault Laguna v6, 406 v6...etc...were my worst enemies as the revs and speed rose. Many a time on a hill they would pull away due to the torque/displacement.

All the mods were UK parts, just wanted to see if home brewed parts could get the same results as jap ones...210hp at the wheels proved that.
