300bhp

Post by phillips1981 »

hi all i know this will have been covered lots i'm looking at a 300wbhp.

i've always meant to do it and now my turbos died so its time to start the mods so i need some advice.

(start point - rev3 turbo, hks induction kit, 5zigen cat back exhaust)

belows what i think i need

stage one turbo
berk down pipe
charge cooler

this is where i come unstuck. do i also need head bolts and gasket? and how do i go about mapping it? will i need an after market ecu? will the clutch be ok? never going to go past 350bhp is this ok on standard internals?

cheers for your help guys (if any one has links to other threads thats great as well)

CT20b turbo will make 300hp no problm. Rev 3 turbo comes with a metal head gasket as standard

electronic boost controller is also needed. 300hp Can be made from 1.1bar

cold grade plugs

berk pipe and CC will help make the 300.

Clutch will cope with the power but may give up the ghost after awhile depends on how you drive.

Remapping you'll have to go standalone ecu - Power FC, link, Motec

Mine runs that power on low boost and I love it,Real grin :D factor

The chassis even in standard GTS form (not sure on GT as my previous rev1 was a bit of a pudding) copes very well too.

sjm1984 has covered most things for ya I think so Best of Luck :thumleft:

The Op looks as if he was asking for wheel bhp(wbhp), that would be around 350 fwbhp give or take, possibly a bit much for standard internals/flywheel. Turbo upgrade would be required along with injectors, fuel pump, ecu etc..
Decent turbo is a must so for a kit you would be talking at least 1k for a second hand garret etc.

lots of money required...

cheers guys, i was after the 300wbhp but if it means messing with the internals then 300fly will be plenty for now.

looking forward, any more recommendations for the magic 300wbhp? i don't want to completely over engineer the project but i am willing to put a bit of money into it.

the stage one is rated at to 370/380 i'm guessing fly so that would cover the 350 you mentioned i think the st205 charge cooler is ok to near 400 so that should be ok.

I've got 300 in my head as i've read thats about the right trade off for power and handling i think they said 350max is that about right or am i talking rubbish? :?

Previous threads on here and on MR2OC, rev3 owners have found they can run 350bhp on standard internals. Larger/more efficient turbo, more fuel, EMS and suitable intercooler/CC required though. In fact there is a thread on MR2OC where a guy is running 400bhp+ on std internals with the aid of a methanol injection kit.

This is not the actual thread I was on about but another similar setup

The ring-lands on the pistons have been proved the weak point time and again, even around the 300 mark but the more power then the more luck you will need.
Even the engines that survive, sooner or later most seem to fail, cylinder 3 seems most prone... :-k

^^^ What Martin said :thumleft:

Yes, you can get 300 bhp and more out of standard internals, but there's a significant chance it'll break before too long. Getting a reliable 300 bhp at the wheels will cost significant amounts of money as you'll need to open the engine.

I find that mine at 1Bar has so little lag that 300 fwhp is great and
at a reasonable cost too.

It must be the instant pull that makes me

Love it.
