Mk2 rev2 turbo-Front shock absorber question

Post by RENOFOXX »

Front shock has been knocking for a while now after hitting a pot hole!!!
Removed the front wheel to see if i could see anything and found the shock was covered in fluid! Could anyone tell me what this means and how much it will cost to fix including labour please? M.O.T. runs out next tuesday so need to get on the case. thanx.

It means the seals in the shock absorber have failed and you will probably find that that wheel will bounce all over the place when braking on uneven ground.

Is your car a rev1? These had rebuildable struts so that you can replace just the shock absorber (~(£90?).

For later revisions you will have to replace the whole strut. It might be easier/cheaper to buy a second hand rev 1 rebuildable strut and buy a new shock absorber which is what I did.

No ideas on labour cost I'm afraid as I did mine myself!

-edit Just noticed you have a rev 2 ](*,) So you will have to get rebuildable struts+damper or new struts
