Post by mrRobbo2 »

Has anyone mounted there own reverse lights?

Im after ideas, inspiration as to where i can fix some.

I have ordered x2 thin White LED unit and I plan to mount them into the lower grill. Somehow??

I dont want it looking tacky so im after ideas etc.

Rev3 panel isnt an option.

thats freaking hilarious! i ordered 2 thin light strips yesterday to mount as my reverse lights!

i have rev3 lights without the centre panel (i dont like the look) so i was looking to do exactly the same thing as your thinking.

i also had a light bump a few months ago and am in the process of repairing my rear bumper (lady driver didnt stop when i did) so while repairing the bumper im considering "modifications" to my veilside bumper to incorperate both a fog and a reverse. I will post some ideas if your interested

I ordered mine yesterday too lol.

Yeah man I'd be very interested! My old 2 had a veilside bumper.
What about sticking it in the 2 ends that stick down next to the exhaust pipes?

Or the Reg plate area?

I'm bit dubious about it working and no doubt il end up buying a rev3 panel and lights but I wanna do things diff to this 2 than my last one

keep me posted mate

i had to do this on my 205 as it was an early one and they had revesing light and fog light in the rear valance and i had my own custom made so had to mount them else where.

i took one of them small 3rd brake light things "street wise" i think it was sealed the inside with silcone to make it weather proof, then took the end caps of so i could fit it flush with the bottom of the bumper, plus when it was on it lite my daul exhaust system up a treat.

i mounted it about 15mm further back so you couldnt actually see it unless you really looked.

then i put 40mm led strips each side of the fog lamp

yeh the 2 virticle peices is exactly where im looking at putting them. undecided between 1x reverse and 1x fog or the alternative 2x reverse lights and place the fog elsewhere

the wiring is already to the rear so its a case of extending that and hooking it up to the lamps (ensuring the feed is the correct voltage for the lamps) i also have crystal clear resin which i will use to make lenses in the bumper (actually part of the bumper) so theres no seams or edges, the lamps will be mounted behind and secured in place possibly with a backing plate keeping the worst of road dirt away from them and also stop any light lighting the underside of the car or exhaust.

the lights have been re wired to have a symetrical lighting, so no fog light integrated, instead i have both brake lights activating and when my lights are on they both act as duel filement lights

they look like they will do the job!

i received mine a couple of days ago mine came from shanghi china i think, have been repairing my bumper so that i can install them. I have chosen to go with my initial idea of the small virtical sections on the veilside bumper.

my gf has been valuable help in the process, taking photos as me and my best mate have been making progress, she has even got stuck in with sanding and helping with the actual work which is awsome.

so i will get some pics up of the process i followed, hopefuly it will be involved enough for people to follow!
