Tape deck to ipod / mp3 player convertor....

Post by gforceuk »

Anyone tried one of these?

Its a cassette tape which you place in the tape deck and an mp3 cable from the tape into your mp3 player..... no idea if its any good yet.

A guy in carphonewhorehouse tried to sell me one for a tenner telling me it sounded fab .. wasnt convinced so picked one up from amazon for 3 quid.

yep used one in my MK1 with an Ipod, 20+ year old tape deck isn't ever going to sound great but as a cheap way to get your MP3's playing in your MK1 can't beat it really
try using a head cleaner tape first and whack the volume up to about 3/4 full then control sound with the ipod volume

Alternative is what I use, FM transmitter plugged into mp3 player/mobile phone. Transmits your toones through a frequency of your choosing. I think Chris paid about a tenner or so it and its great. :thumleft:

That's the best option IMHO you get a pretty decent sound with them.
I tried the tape transfer system years ago and wasn't impressed at all.

I'd still pay a few extra quid and get a modern headunit with cd and aux/ipod input.

Make sure a buy a decent one with a stable transmitter. I bought one on eBay for a tenner and the frequency would drift off as it warmed up and when I used it my old Laguna the rear wiper would randomly start going and the talking box thing (yeah it was one of THOSE Lagunas) would say random stuff about the tail lights being broken. It turned out the car had a sort of data bus and the transmitter was interefering with it.

In the end I got a Bluetooth headunit in Lidl for £60, which is average, but still better than the speakers in the MR2 :)
