Cusco brake stopper anyone ?

Okay, so I bought this one :



(lets call the holes from left to right, 1 - 2 and 3.)


Then I found these pictures:






Then, today, I tried to fit it.
But... ofcourse, it's an MR2, things didn't worked out perfectly at the 1st go.






As you can see the bolt that secures the reservoir is in the 1st picture fully out.
And in my set-up it's fully in.

And even then, it doesn't align with the centre cut out hole in the reservoir.
There is still a little play between the bolt and the reservoir.

And... the bolt which goes into hole number 2, I couldn't re-use that one, as it was too short. Had to source another one.


So I am wondering... do I have the wrong stopper?
Is the 1st picture a different reservoir/car ?
Did I do something wrong ?

First thing I noticed dude is that the stopper appears to be a different shape. Look at the angle between the threaded section on yours that has the bolt to the reservoir and the ARM that goes straight down, thats 90degrees on yours and its far more angled on the. Cusco one. The mount on the Cusco one appears to be far closer to the reservoir

i think it is revsion 2 vs revision 3

i brought one like that from someone took out of a rev2 car
i just change it to a longer bolts

I'm probably being thick, but I can't understand what you'd need this for?

When you brake there is movement in the master cylinder, this device braces the cylinder to give you more positive braking and less travel in the pedal.
Hope that makes sense!

I couldn't work out which way it went

Still sat in the garage for fitting.

I thought all Rev3+ have ABS and brake stoppers don't work on the cars with ABS because of room issues


Can you not us washers to space out the fixing points to push it a little closer into postion

Mine is a rev3, and is non-abs.


And the bolt has to come up a bit, to fit the "hole", so I don't thing washers are of any use.

I think I just have to find a longer bolt

Or someone else on here wants to buy it

I fitted one of these today, which went straight on. I cant see how it is so different on your car.
I've compared the pic of your one and the one I bought and they look identical except mine is red not blue. The mounting holes/bolts on your car look in the same place as mine, is there any way the master cylinder could be out of place or moved?
I will get some pics and measurements tomorrow if that helps.

That looks like the same one, yes.
But, does your car got ABS?

If so, that could indeed be the reason.
But I would like to see some pictures if possible (if you're saying the positioning looks different)


And to all the others, I thought these stoppers weren't available for non-abs cars

You're right, according to the Cusco website (http://www.cusco.co.jp/en/pdf/Brake%20m ... toyota.pdf specifically) they don't do one for ABS cylinders.

Which makes this even weirder. eBay special rather than genuine Cusco?

I presume the ebay copies are poorly designed and dont go straight on?

The example pics are of my car.. I purchased that Cusco one from RHDJapan and it just went straight on, no fuss. It used mounting points that are the same on all MK2 body shells.

I think I have found your problem, looking at the pics of your to mine I noticed your master cylinder is further back. I dont know why this is but that is why the stopper is not fitting your car.
I would of thought a longer bolt will probably do.
I felt the difference in the pedal and braking straight away, surprised how much better they feel, would definitely recommend one of these.
