Question on mounting a harness

Post by PlasticMonster »

Very simple one for anyone who has done it before..

Basically I know where the points need to be, I know where to get a spreader plate and eye bolts, I have a drill... but besides drilling the holes and bolting in the eye bolts is there anything else I need to do?

I'm thinking if I drill the floor of the car do I need to stick in some silicon or something to stop the hole rusting? Special paint? Rubber washer of some sort? What did anyone else do?

When I mounted mine, I used the existing mounting points from the seatbelt for the lap straps. The straps that go over your shoulders were then fixed with spreader plates through the firewall.

If you are going to fix through the floor, then paint the holes with something like hamerite to stop any rust and you could use some sort of silicone to make sure it is water tight.

Seam sealer would be better than paint. You can get a tin of grey strip from halfords. Just apply with a small touch up brush.

Would also use the factory fixings for the lap strap and drill the firewall for the shoulders.
