[Mk2] [Turbo] Ideal Engines "recon" engine" rev2 turbo

Post by Poker Face »

Firstly i will say I have had reservations about ordering an engine from the above mentioned but 'a' I need an engine and 'b' my mechanic said we can have a look before we fit and if you pay by c.c you stand a good chance if they are dodgy.

Well the engine arrives not very well packed according to my engineers, and the use a boroscope/endoprobe to look inside the cylinders and see carbon rings in the cylinders etc.

The whole engine has been re-sprayed which is a common bluff for a recon engine.

both myself and my engineers spoke to 'ideal' and they basically said return for a refund as someone else will buy the engine or return it. If I strip it I will void the warrantty and will not be able to return the engine so a strip and report is out of the question.

I don't want to start a thread about dodgy dealers but I need an engine sooner rather than later. The way I look at it is I have just paid too much for a second hand engine or bought a cheap recon.

My gut feeling was to f**k them off in the first place. Now I'm in a dilemma. Stip it and see if its any good and no warrantty or fit it and chance it or send it back.

Most options will cost dollar and if I get a second hand engine I will still get it looked at.

After all this it really boils down to I know nothing about mr2 turbo's which is why I'm looking for a new engine. I bought a car, engine went a small while and then it died. PLEASE HELP.

Dude all those companies, Ideal, SMR Nipon spares are f**ing crooks. They get nacked up scrap engines from Japan, repaint them and sell them as low millage/ recon engines.

Utter right hand jockeys the lot of them.

Much better off looking for cars being broken on here or by someone decent like 3S, Rogue, GTSChris, Luke etc :thumleft:

At least if you buy from an affiliate on here they will most likely have an opinion on the enige, have seen it run etc :thumleft:

2nd that! tell them you will be sending the engine back along with a spoon so they can eat your ass!

I got a rev3 through ebay for £200, its in bits and needs a rebuild but will be good as new with new bearings, gaskets etc, and will cost less than an engine from crooks r us!

engines pop up on here for sales all the time and will be a better bet :thumleft:

Thanks fella's I will send it back with a spoon.

I have taken your advice and looked at mr2's being broken. I haven't seen a rev2 engine yet but can you fit a rev1 or 3 engine?

Topgun on the OC has a rev2 turbo engine for sale, had a new block a few thousand miles ago, wanted around £500 for it.
We ALL make mistakes !!! :)
