[Mk2] [NA] Leaking Boot

Post by brgbrm »

The boot on my car is leaking. I've tried putting newspaper under the aerial and the aerofoil mount points and spraying the car with water for 10 mins, but it didn't choose to leak! I think it just leaks when it really hammers down. Any ideas what else I can try before gving up and taking it to garage?

Take a look at the rubber seals and where the boot shuts on the lights.

How bads the pond? Could it home small fish?

i had the same problem it caused my ecu to fail :( ..

i bet you its coming from the spoiler holes, take them off either put silicone on around the spoilers holes or use gromets that should stop it (it worked for me i used the silicone method i know others that used gromets and havent had problems cant remember the gromet sizes though)

anyways your lucky its the summer i had to do mine in the winter (had to wait ages to find a day it didnt rain lol)

:D

It was pretty bad the first time I spotted it, a couple of inches. Since then I've garaged it all the time, but now the Elise has the garage space so the na is on the drive so I need to fix it.

Yes, I read that about the ECU. Nasty!

I've already put newspaper under the spoliermount points though, I don't think that;s where the ingress is happening as the paper didn't get damp.

I'm lucky in the sense that I quite like working on the cars when it's warm/sunny, yes!

I haven't seen any water in the well at the aerial side, I'v eonly seen it on the large central flat area. What is frustrating is that I've seen it when it's already amassed at the bottom, I've never seen any dampness / trickles on the sides!

Check the gromit that seals the ECU wiring from the enigne bay, mine was loose and causing the boot to get soaked :thumleft:

Just because the paper under the spoiler doesnt get wet doesn't mean the spoiler holes arn't leaking. On my N/A the water was coming through there and collecting in the tubular brace parts ofr the boot lid and running down to the side of the boot before coming down into the central area under the foam and carpet.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

Tranx: that's a great idea, I would never have thought of that! I'll go stick some more newspaper round the place at the we.
