Tubby overheating accompanied by whining

Post by jonnie »

Just got home from a short drive to tesco...

5 minute drive there, no boosting. 5 minute drive back, no boosting and when I slowed down to pull into my road I heard a whining noise from the engine bay. Stopped and opened the bonnet.. sounds like it's coming from N/S?

Also noticed at this point that the temperature gauge was almost right up at the top and there was steam/smoke coming from the engine bay. When I turned the engine off, the whining continued for a few seconds before disappearing.

As far as I'm aware, the only thing that is wrong with the car is the blow off valve, as it occasionally makes a kinda goose honk noise.

Any ideas of what could be up to cause the overheating?

Check your coolant level under pressure cap and overflow bottle.

Check for any leaks.

Check if your radiator fans come on when the car is hot.

Check the heaters are blowing hot air.

Report back. :thumleft:
