AE101 4AGZE sump pan removal

Post by Clarky_X »

Anyone know how many bolts hold on the AE101 supercharged sump pan? My AW11 Haynes manual says there should be 19, but that is for the MR2 engine which has the oil cooler. The AE101 is slightly different. There are another 2 bolts on the gearbox side of the pan that are tight up against something and I can't get a socket on them. Do these 2 actually hold the pan on at all or do I just ignore them, I didn't want to start prising the pan off if I needed to take them out and I ended up not being able to seal it back up again as it is my daily driver.

The only difference between the GE and GZE sumps is the connection on the side for the oil cooler return pipe - the actual sump itself is identical, including the number of bolts fixing it to the block. Try removing the cover plate off the bottom of the bellhousing ( 3 or 4 bolts IIRC ) to get at the last two on that end of the sump.

And yes, that applies to the AE101 GZE too - my track car has an AE101 GZE, but with a GE sump fitted to keep the oil cooler

Thanks, I'll give that a go next time I am under the car.

Just FYI, if I get those other 2 off, that makes 21 bolts holding on the pan, the manual says 19. So I wasn't sure if those last 2 were actually holding on the pan or not.
