[Mk2] [Turbo] Help, new head unit not getting power :-(

Post by andyg1978 »

Hi

I have just spent the day trying to fit a new stereo. Mr MR2 came with a non standard 2 DIN Eclipse unit with cd and minidisc. The install of this did not the Toyota 14PIN connector, it took the ACC and put it into its own wiring loom.

The stock amplifier was bypassed but left powered.

I cannot seem to get power to my new head unit even by creating wiring to a standard ISO connector. ](*,)

I removed the power to the stock amplifier and think this may be an issue as described by this link here.

http://stephenmason.com/cars/mr2audio.html#huharness

down the bottom of the page it says;

"It should also be noted that if you're using the AMP (1) & ANT (7) leads, or the ACC (9) lead, you'll need to retain the stock amplifiers. I'd recommend leaving them in regardless, unless you're on a big weight reduction kick."

I removed the power to the stock amplifier! Is this a problem?

Has anybody done this and can offer advice?

cheers guys

head unit installed - now have a new problem!

Post by andyg1978 »

I have managed to sort the power problem I had with the head unit - turned out to be a grounding problem.
All is working fine now - except..........
I now get a whine coming from the speakers when a certain motor is running in the frunk.
This motor runs whenever the engine is on and also runs for about 30 seconds if you put the key to the position 2 in the ignition.
Whilst this motor is running you get a whine through the speakers that varies with engine revs.
I have managed to work out what motor is the problem, turning the igniton to point 2 and sticking my head it to hear which one it was (photo below);

Can anybody tell me what this is and why it may be causing interferance?

And should you be able to hear this spinging from the cabin? should it be that loud?

Thanks

Andy

that would be the power steering pump. mine causes interference on the 2nd notch of ignition for about 30 sec then clears down then again if i turn the wheel. the rev changing whine will be alternator related, mine use to do this but stopped after changing alternators......then the new one popped, so im thinking all the whines are related to poor functioning alternators regulators or something along those lines

theres many ice - whine threads on imoc and mr2oc and a few of them are ongoing, well worth using the search function as theres lots of good ideas as to what you can do to help reduce its impact......one day i will actualy resolve mine :?
