[Mk2] [Turbo] complete loss of power at 3000rpm

Post by Tommy P »

i took my 1993 rev 2 for a spin this morning and it was driving fine then as i pulled off from a roundabout it wouldn't pull past 3000rpm and the engine warning light came on,it drives fine below 3000 and will rev' until the redline and achieve full boost when its stationary.ive recently changed the dizzy cap, rotor arm, plug leads, oil and filter, air filter and fitted an xs power intercooler and MBC set at 0.8 so i there should be nothing wrong in any of those areas, ive even removed all the intercooler piping and reinstalled it just in case there was an air leak but it made no difference, any advice would be greatly appreciated

You need to check your fault codes. I would think it may be the knock sensor.

faulty knock sensor does not cause those symptoms, youd get a constant light and massively retarded and lack of power timing but it would still comfortably rev past 3000

That is incorrect.

When the knock sensor goes, only over 3krpm will it register on the dash as a fault. Once it's on, it stays on until the ignition is switched off, and the code will be stored. The light will then come back on, once revved to 3kprm.

and achieve full boost when its stationary

And that's not possible without anti-lag!

NOTE: If you car shows you an error light, do an error code check!

Are these knock sensors that are worn out or somehow damaged...or are they reporting knock?
