[Mk2] [Turbo] Engine/suspension questions

Post by Fred_Bear »

Hi

This is really a few questions that I am sure will show my ignorance and give some people a laugh.

1) The link below is to a photo of my MkII engine, what is the bell shaped thing in the middle?
Image

2) The ride is so hard I think my fillings may fall out and have been told it has "track suspension" on it. Will changing it give a noticeable improvement in ride? Links to suspension pics.

Any advice?

Ta.

that bell thing is an aftermarket dump valve. replacing it with a standard item will improve the driveability and fuel consumption of your MR2 plus stop thwe chavvy "ptscch" noise everytime you let off the throttle on boost

Hi
The fuel gauge does seem to move quickly, is it just a replacement or is there anything else needs adjusting/changed?
Thanks

looks like there is a nonstandard air flow meter - turbo hard pipe.
that could possibly have to be changed to revert to a stock set up.

take a look at this picture, at a guess you would need the parts labeled "Blow-off valve (BOV)" and maybe the part labeled "Intake piping"

you will also see a large hose connecting the intake piping to the BOV.

Thats the reason i say you might need a stock "intake piping" section from turbo to air flow meter.

if you have an unused blanked off port on the intake piping that a large hose could potentially connect to from the BOV then you might get away with only forking out for a stock BOV. either way it will be cheap enough.

Hi Dan,

Ok, thanks for the information, I am willing to swap a woosh noise for better mpg so will do the replacements as you suggest.

Now if you buy the Fiesta you could do it as a project! Can you imagine a standard looking Fiesta doing 0-60 in 5.5?
