[Mk2] [NA] Recommend QUALITY Components...??

Post by JayUK91 »

Hi guys,

Right, all i need now before installing my new ICE setup is some nice weather ( ), and some Component Speakers. I have a 10" Sub with a custom made box (that'll fit behind the seat - cheers Dan!), and 2 amps. One of the amps is solely for the sub, and the other is to solely power the components. These are the only speakers that'll be in the car.

The amp i have for the components is 4 channel, with 4x100w rms that i'll be running in bridged 2 channel (about 200w rms per channel i think). Now, to compliment the bass from the 10" sub, i'm gonna need some real nice quality component speakers that bring the soundstage to the front of the cabin...and i'm struggling to find some (well, my lack of experience is what's making me struggle!).

I had some cheap JBL components in my previous car, and i currently have some cheap (i think) Pioneer components in the car at the moment. In my current setup (without the sub installed), these speakers (sub £80) are perfectly adequate. However, i've recently been tempted to explore the possibilities of quality £150/£200+ component speakers.

Does anybody know what makes these kind of components so special, i.e. why they are at least £100 more expensive than the "budget" equivalents? I'm talking of brands such as Focal, Rainbow and high-end Pioneer/Alpine stuff etc.

Does anybody have any experience of using speakers such as these, and does anybody have any recommendations? Just a few links so you know the kind of thing i'm referring to:

Any help guys??

(Note, I have a real bad habit of writing far too much in my threads...which is why i don't post them very often...sorry!)

I am about to swap my Alpine d-d-drive components for a set of Rainbows as one of the cones is knackered. I chose Rainbow purely on recommendations from people I consider to be in the know.

Other than that I have a pretty similar setup to what you're proposing. Your biggest headache will be eliminating unwanted noise!

Edit: Oh yeah, in my experience I don't get much sound from the sub behind the driver's seat, as I have to sit with the seat quite far back to fit in the car which results in a weird kind of massage-chair setup, with the grill on the sub touching the back of the seat. If I were you I'd put it behind the passenger seat :thumleft:

Cheers mate.

Yeah the sub will be going behind the passengers seat. I never have passengers anyway, so it can go as far forward as necessary.

I've heard great things about Rainbow kit, but until you actually hear what they sound like in YOUR car, you can't really use it as a deciding factor if you know what i mean....that's kinda why i'm struggling to find something i like.
