just bought and bad idle

my mate just bought a rev2 turbo and it idles at 2,000 when cold and 1500 when warm. i took he oil cap of and it droped down to 900. so i think its a blockage in the breather to the rocker cover. pulled off the pipe and the revs drop from 1500 to 800 but as the maf meter has a hole past it, it idles really lumpy then stalls. is this a common blockage area. also can you get rid of the maf and put a map sensor in as im sure it restrictive. if so how would i go about doin this.

First thing i would check is the throttle cable. Remove it from the engine completely and then see what it revs like. It might be something as simple as that. If it revs less simply put it back on and adjust to your required rev range

also try cleaning you ICV as this will really crew up your idle...just done mine after two months of trying other things...purrs like a kitten now
