[All] [NA] Very annoying STEREO PROBLEM HELP PLEASE :(

Post by bobothemonkey »

Stereo Turns off and flickers back on constantly

I bought a new stereo for my car,and when removing the existing one,i noticed that it has been botched up, I disconnected it all,and tried to fit new stereo, and keeps powering off,and flickering back on everytime you try to put the cd player on, so i removed it,and re wired up the old stereo, and now same problem, everytime I turn the radio off and put the cd player on or push eject the stereo turns off and flickers back on and keeps doing this, I read online that it has something to do with the auto arial but everything seems to be okay.

Absolutely no idea what is wrong with it, battery is fully charged, connections are all okay, fuses are okay.

I would be greatful for any advice that anyone might have on how to sort it, or what the problem is.
Many thanks

If it's flicking on and off, Have you checked that you have a decent earth?

Not sure that the electric aerial would cause this but I'm not that great on electrics.

if its been bodged - i would personally say it will be a bad earth or a live that isnt secured properly!

just re solder/connect all the connections that are already there.

it will take you about 30 mins to do and i'd put money on the fact it will work!

Will try re soldering them, am I correct in thinking black is negative red is live, and connect them to black to black red to yed and also to yellow wire? There is also a red and black stripped cable from the car which doesn't appear to match upto anything

Just to put it out there, it's faulty logic to think "It's probably a dodgy wire so THAT is what I'll look for".

TBH, it's probably that it IS a faulty wire but your first step is to actually CONFIRM that.

If it's ONLY switching itself off when a CD is inserted or ejected it seems like the problem is actually that the voltage supply to the stereo is too low to power it.
That could be something to do with the power ariel if the stereo sends a signal to the ariel to extend or retract when a CD is in use.

If it was me, I'd yank the stereo out and then disconnect the wire to the ariel and see if the stereo still switches itself on and off when you eject a CD.
If it doesn't then you know the ariel IS something to do with the problem.
If you still have the same problem then the issue is that the power feed to the stereo.

Use a multimeter to monitor the voltage to the stereo.
Load or eject a CD and see what happens to the voltage. I'd bet it drops off to about 8v when the CD is ejected.
