[Mk2] [NA] Decent clutch kits

Post by dannyh »

Car: MK2 SW20
Rev: 3 UK
Year: 1994
Engine: 3S-GE 2.0 16v

Hi all, i have a bit of a problem. im trying to find a decent clutch kit for my MR2. at the moment all i can find are crap ebay knock offs and silly cheap pattern clutches. I do a fair amount of track time in all aspects (circuit, auto test, drag, drift) now ive been offered a CCI clutch kit from a local supplier imported from the states for £425. now to me that seems a bit too dear without fitting. a friend of mine has a celica gt4 and swears by clutch masters fx300 but according to the supplier that wont fit because hers is a turbo 3S-GE wheres mines obviously an N/A.

can someone shead any light on that statement? are turbo clutches and n/a clutches really that different? and also can anyone personally recommend a clutch kit that has a decent bite, life and price.

many thanks guys,
Daniel

Danny, we fit alot of exedy units without trouble, they are a slight upgrade on the oem units :thumleft:

I believe the centre plates have a different number of splines, so you will need an NA centre plate. The Turbo clutch cover will have a higher clamping force to cope with the increased torque.

Yes, it's the stronger 'Turbo' clutch cover you want and an NA centre plate. You could probably buy a good quality complete Turbo clutch (Exedy from EuroCarParts about £120) then try to buy an NA centre plate on its own. Should be good enough if your engine's std. Just a thought, but it might be worth going to somewhere like ECP and comparing the 2 clutches. You might even find that the covers are the same from EXEDY, and if its good enough for the Turbo it'll be fine for an NA track car.
