Heater - very weak

Post by Lea »

Not sure why but my car just doesn't seem to heat up! even when the engine temp is up, it's only blowing out almost warm air which has been a nightmare over the winter and having a t-bar means that everything is soaking wet, never dries out then freezes the car solid! :?

A bit skint so wondered if there is anything anyone could suggest that I check myself?

Thanks

with the condensation issues and the lack of heat I would say it points to the heater matrix....not done an MR2 but did my GT4 ....erm..... not a job for the faint hearted ....but it is do-able ............. I will try to find pics ....but its a dash out job.....

go to http://www.celicagt4.co.uk/ and click on news....then heater matrix ...will give you an idea of the job......

does the engine temperature gauge get halfway or stuck down the bottom?
does the car have enough coolant in it?
if yer tbars are leaking there are plenty of fixes, try the rubber seal replenisher - spray on the seals and let it soak in to help puff the seals back up. Don't assume a wet car with a tbar is the heater matrix (though it is still a possibility - everything else is cheaper to do first - just check where the leaks are)

or below which tbh is a lot of hassle for not much gain (in my case anyway)

IME experience the dead giveaway for the heatermatrix leaking is the smell of coolant inside the car.

If you cant smell coolant, I'd be looking elsewhere for the problem :)

ah yes i missed that first bit however low coolant level means nothing in the heater pipes as they are high up in the system which would give crappy heating

If it's the heater matrix leaking you will be getting a wet passenger footwell. It will also taste sweet if you lick it (then spit it out) if it's coolant (matrix problem) rather than water (which it will be if it's a t-bar leak).
