Well this is what happened when Kev Crane ( crazylegs ) was run off the road on Friday morning and hit a kerb.....OUCH !, so on Sunday i went and gave him a hand.... well what are mate's for !!, when we jacked the car up this is what we found, it was fortunately only confined to the track control arm and a dinged alloy but could have been much, much worse, the replacement straight arm can be seen next to the offending item, my only appeal is WHERE THE HELL WAS URI GELLER YESTERDAY THEN !!!
P.S kev is now back on the road again, where all good MK1's should be , Jinxy
Cheers Lauren, Kev has said that there is no vibration through the wheel but the steering wheel is a little off centre now as a result of the ding and ive recomended that he gets the tracking sorted as soon as, all this happened at only 20mph !!. it only took about 1 hour to get the old arm off and new one back on..... But it took over 2 hours!! to get the nut on the ball joint as kev didnt have a joint splitter so he whacked the thread... distorting it !! so we had many hours of fun and games on what was not the warmest day of the year trying to get this nut on the thread.............ah, the joys of owning a MK1, and we still wouldnt change them for anything else !, cheers, Jinxy
yep i was a bit surprised but when you saw the angle of the wheel its a result.it was down hill ,a steep hill into a high kerb all the weight of the car was on it. bloody old git didnt even know he was on the wrong side of the road!! he just drove on oblivious.
yep thats fairly typical, the bottom arm bends in exactly the same place on every side on impact, just had one at the garage that had a bent arm just like that at a mind blowing 10mph,slid on ice sideways into a curb, did exactly the same to the bottom arm.You can actually get away with just heating it up and bending it straight again.
made for some interesting steering though.if you stick in a new ball joint its a piece of p..cake. just have to swap the other one now. Paul i here you have just fitted some new bushes from twosRus.still think they are any good? have you heard what the rear anti roll bar conversion is like?
hows the roof? bet you were pi$$ed off when you got to work.
hi kev,the 2srus prothane bushes are amazing, havent got round to fitting them yet but they are top quality and half the price of fensports kit (superflex?).Bill Strong is using the 2srus kit on the toystar.
The rear anti roll bar mod? you mean the mk2 turbo bar? yeah it works really well, helped loads on the mk1 turbo.
Paul, i just bought a set of those bushes from 2's r us this morning, if i get a chance to fit them before coming up to you i will let you know how they feel, and now that i'm having my seats fully re-leathered next week this car has now officially cost me an arm & leg !!! anyone wanna buy a lung ?? , Jinxy
no paul i mean the uprated one from twosrus.its supposed to compliment the front.
jinxy save some money for petrol its a bloody long way to durham.i know you have your cheque but you REALLY dont have to spend it all this week!!
is it a straight swap or do you have to do much modification? did you do an article on it?
the offer of help is on if you want it.i will prob be coming up with tony.so any labouring or gopher jobs were the boys.you can build a proper workshop now all the craps blown away!
its not a straight swap kev,the mounting points on the chassis legs need moving back about 2 inches but it does bolt straight onto the mk2 droplinks,no article on that but i will do a little write up on it when i fit the mk2 bar to lily.
Cheers for the offer of help but im pretty much sorted now, just looked worse than it was.
