[Mk2] [NA] Electrical suppressors?

Post by Si_Crewe »

Just wondering if anybody is aware of a "best" method of suppressing the MR2 engine.

My MR2 still has the active sound system installed with a Kenwood head unit.

With the engine stopped the sound is fine but with the engine running there's a quiet buzz from the speakers which alters with revs.

The Kenwood head unit came with a little suppresor gizmo which I fitted but which had no effect.

It occurs to me that the interference might be being picked up by the active sound system rather than the head unit.

Ideally, I would like some kind of suppresor that fits to the alternator or to the ignition system.

Suggestions?

rip out the stock amps and hardwire the speakers (passivly to the headunit) this will stop the whining and (imo) make the system easier to upgrade in the future. + it stops you having to fart about with earth leads and suppressors etc!!

Yeah, you're probably right but that's a big job.

TBH, at the moment I have the speakers connected to the pre-amp outputs purely because the sound is going through the active system so it's not an ideal set-up.

I was hoping there might be some whizzbang gizmo I could attach to the alternator which'd smooth the supply there to save me trying to get the active sound amp suppressed specifically.

If I'm gonna rip out the active sound system, that's a job for summer time.
