Pretty sure the drivers side door solenoid is goosed, or the connector attached to it.

Sounds like using the key in the drivers door is operating the mechanical lock but not triggering the electronic gubbins which talks to the central locking and alarm.

FWIW, with you saying the doors were twitchy all day, that sounds like a fault with a connector rather than with the solenoid itself but, then again, it might just have been the death throws of the solenoid causing it.

Top-tip: After you've pulled the door card off peel off the plastic sheet very carefully and try to leave as much of the gooey black stuff in place as possible so you can stick the plastic sheet back down again.

On the bright side, door solenoids are usually peanuts from a breaker cos they're one of the bits they never bother selling.

Hi Dicky,
There's a connector on the rear of the lock barrel which has a copper slider and it just wears out over the years. I just replaced mine a few weeks ago (about £25 each door)

It's okay until some day the pass side one packs up too and then your alarm goes off, but more importantly the immobiliser won't disarm

As a short term fix you can disconnect the lead running from this connector. There's a 3 pin plug about a foot away from the door lock if you follow the cable. make sure you leave the end of this plug accessable - once in a blue moon my alarm would set and immobiliser arm and to disarm it you need to cross two of the 3 pins on the connector. I left the 3 pin plug sitting under the plastic door handle (the one which pops out) so I could get to it when needed.

Hope this makes sense

Patrick
