lowered cars, pulling to one side?

Post by bill »

Since i bought my tubby its pulled a LOT to the left under normal driving, i've had it in at pheonix motorsports who's main dealings is specialising in fast road/race prepped elises/vx220's, they have done the 4 wheel alignment on it and the tracking. but it still pulls to the left, i have taken it back to them, had it checked over and the conclusion was, as its lowered on coilovers the car will do this, and basically thats that!

So is that it!? there is nothing i can do about it, i just have to put up with it, surely not, anybody suggest anywhere else i can take it to get it sorted out, lancashire, north west please :thumleft:

cheers

i've used the guys at phoenix a few times (my mates brother works their - greg, the bearded one) and as much as i respect thier opinion, i would dissagree with that comment and olly did get the last diagnosis wrong with my brakes
when is it happening mate? all the time as in you are constantly fighting with the wheel? just under braking or acceleration?
dont forget you need to be on a completely flat road to test as even a slight camber will make it pull a little

I've noticed that the MR2 pulls in the direction of the road camber more than any other car I've owned. Any change in the road surface or bump is transmitted back to the wheel which was un-nerving at first. I think it's just very direct feedback to the wheel.

Then again there might be something wrong with my car too and I just don't know any different! :D

depending on tyre sizes the MR2s are very prone to tram lining down where the HGVs drive all the time, and can be effected by camber quite easy..

The car seems to keep straight under hardish acceleration and braking, its just when i'm dodling along or just cruising along an a road if i let go of the wheel it turns/pulls left, very noticable, cant be right :?:

i thought i'd cracked it when i heard of pheonix and took my car along, now i'm not to sure, i will use them again, but feel i'd like to start a fresh on this particular problem

my mi16 205 was also a nightmare, would try and pull you in the ditch everytime i put my foot down!

mine does this too but then the roads near me are terrible at the moment. Pulls to the lean of the camber. Im on cusco coilovers which are much harder than my old stock ones. On my old stock suspension it used to pull to the left all the time checked brakes and changed everything but still did it.Later found out that the suspension cup (dont know the tech term) had corroded and started to move with the spring which caused the pull. Changed to coilovers and it sorted the problem. :thumleft: As you are already on coilovers idoubt it will be that tho. :eye:

i'll get straight to the point

my car has 18's
my car has coilovers
my car did pull to the left
myself went on www.alignmycar.co.uk
my car went to nearest garage with this equipment
my car stopped pulling to one side

not many garages have this alignment equipment.

good luck.

Had mine lowered on standard wheels and I certainly noticed that it pulled to the left when I drove away from Rogue, but after a day or two it stopped - do notice the tramlines tho!
Now running on 17s 40 215front and 235rear and the ride is much better :thumleft:
