[Mk2] [NA] rev3 alarm and central locking problem

Post by podkez »

Our car will not lock or unlock when you need it to!

When you press the fob it flashes the lights and the doors do not lock. When you do it manually with the key it just sets the lights off and then seems to go wappy!

When your driving along the doors lock then unlock for about 5 mins while your moving its very annoying!

When you get back to the car from the shop its unlocked!

I have just spoke with an alarm fitter and he said its going to cost £50 labour on top of the £159.99 alarm fee to fit it as the mr2 is a pain in the a55 to fit an alarm in..... is this bull5hit?

This car is a nightmare so far........ just want a normal car

I don't know why he thinks the MR2 is a hard car to fit an alarm into, I have fitted alarms in cars that are awkward the mr2 is quite easy really, I have fitted two different alarms in mine the latest has a pager, remote start, turbo timer, folds the mirrors on arm and disarm etc.
What alarm do you have at present ? As that or how it has been fitted could have more bearing on the price I suppose ?

Clifford at a guess? :-k The mirrors isn't a big thing, you just stick the total closure output from the alarm (or programmable output if it's a decent alarm) onto the pink wire that goes into the mirror control relay.

No its not clifford as had too many problems with them in the past but I am using a clifford dual zone perimeter protection on it I won't say on a public forum what alarm it is.
You dont need an alarm to fold the mirrors just take wires with diodes in to a switch from the central locking wiring at the back of the door and from the switch to the pink as you say it then operates from the lock unless you switch the switch to stop it.

Paranoid much?

Just kidding mate, can't blame you to be honest.

The whole pager/remote start aspect is what caught my eye...might be worth an investment in the future!
