Radiator removal, mk2 N/A

Post by newmr2owner »

How do I remove a radiator from a mk2 rev 1 na.

Mine has a big hole in it and the scrapyard said I need to remove the one they have myself. Need to make sure I have the right tools with me and can do it on my lunch break. I am hoping they come from above????

Thanks in advance

After a quick answer if poss as hoping to do today

best done from underneath mate
remove front undertrays and the one above the radiator
unplug fans and fan temp switch
remove the fans, 3X10mm bolts each i think
remove the two clamps on the top of the rad, 2x12 or possibly 10mm again each
now thw only thing holding the rad in is the pipes, (wil probably need something to lever them off, or just cut them) remove them, lift the rad about an inch and tilt the bottom towards the rear of car, drop from underneath
when reffiting, soak the pipes in hot water for a while first :thumleft:

thanks for the reply so quickly. was hoping didnt have to come from underneath though. Do you reckon a jack will lift the car enough?

there is actually quite a bit of room once the trays and fans have been removed, it doesnt need to be that high off the ground
maybe it is possible to lift out the top but never heard of it done that way

just to say thankyou to you both, many many kudos

Had a long lunch and managed to get the one off at the scrapyard, got home at half 7 and have just finished fitting to my car. Last hour of that was bleeding, think it needs driving now and then bleeding again.

many thnks
