[Mk2] [NA] Cambelt + Bits Change

Post by tranx »

I'm just about to do the cambelt, idlers, tensioner, waterpump and alternator belt on my car. Am I right in thinking there are 2 idler pulleys to replace and 1 tensioner? Looking at the workshop manual is all good but I'd like to check with someone who has looked for themselves.

Also is there anything else I should be thinking of doing while I'm in there?

Cheers,
Tranx.

Yep- 2 idler pulleys and the tensioner.

Probably worth doing the thermostat while you're there too :thumleft:

What difference does a low temp thermostat make then? Is it as simple as it opens up at a lower temperature?

Surely this just means it takes longer to warm the engine up, are there any benefits?

The TRD thermostat the reduces the coolant temperature of high-performance engines to maximize performance.

By reducing the valve temperature by about 10 to 15.5C compared with that of a standard thermostat, the TRD sports thermostat increases coolant circulation and reduces performance bottlenecks caused by engine heat, to bring out the best in engine performance. (Maintains valve temperature of 71C.)
