Anyone used Replikit?

Post by Craigo »

Hi guys,

I need to buy a Border front bumper after a dog ran out in front of my car
last month destroying my OEM part.

I cant seem to source an original and so the only option i have is a copy. There are options such as IBK and eBay but i've also read about Replikit and the fact they make their own moulds etc...

Anybody used them, or could recommend an alternative?

Cheers

I've had both a Veilside rear bumper and spoiler off them. Both needed no modification to fit and dropped straight on the car.

Replikit are a paid up trader on IMOC - see http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewforum.php?f=78

I'm sure they recently updated their terms having moved all production to the UK to guarantee fitment, or something like that.

We have had problems with getting the right Border front bumpers so I suggest your best bet is to go to the business in question and actually look at the product to see what you think.

pay particular attention to the side light area as this is a problem in some copy border bumpers.

Im going to try and visit a company called SC Bodykits to have a look at one http://www.sportscarbodykits.co.uk

Your best bet is an original border bumper but I have been looking for over a year now with no such luck

Realy you want a genuine one.

On replica look out for -

Side Light fitment (especially drivers side)
Top section, some are all wobbly / uneven
Wheel arch mounting points, some are missing eg on one side but not the other

theres other stuff as well

Genuine goes right on no problem and has all the proper mounting points like the standard bumper, Replica border bumper requires you to drill all the holes etc :(

Oh Im onto my 2nd Genuine Border bumper, Smashed one up in a crash and luckilly managed to get hold of another a week or 2 after the accident LOL, I think I was VERY LUCKY to find that

yeah but i think the price has a lot to do with it, if i fit a copy to my car then smash it, then fit another copy then smash that ine, then fit another copy, it still won't add up to as much as a single genuine one, including painting it(i can do this myself, i know it may be costly for others)

how much has 2 genuine border front ends cost you???

i'd much rather have a copy a a tenth of the price even if it does require a bit of fettling, obviously if a used one appeared cheap enough i'd rather have it, but even used you still pay around 400 for them :-k

it's silly money!!!

Heyyy, i bought my border front bumper from replikit. The bodyshop had afew problems getting it to fit but got it done in the end.
You will need to ditch your fog lights if you have them in order to make it fit.
Here's a pic of mine

EDIT, o yeh, as steve o said, the side light fitment is abit dodgy, i had to sand it down abit to get the side lights to fit properly

1st one was already on the car
2nd one I bought damaged off GTSChris for about £170 :) (Bottom was damaged but was easier to get that repaired than to get a replica to fit)

Brand new they are about £700 before shipping and import tax!!

How long ago did you get your Border front from Replikit ? Was it since they started to produce the kits in the UK and provided guaranteed fitment ?

Yeh it was produced in uk and they guaranteed fitment. The only reason i didnt send it back to them was because the bodyshop i use is a close friend so he spent the time needed to get it fitted correctly.

Ta :)

And could I ask - were they major problems ? I've had bumpers before where they needed filing down a bit, holes drilled etc.

But I'd be okay with those sort of adjustments if the replica was going to cost £180 and the genuine £480 !!

Also, did you get back to Replikit with feedback ? Only way they can learn and improve :)

Cheers

Ive been looking into it a bit further now. They will supply, fit and paint for about £500. They will need the car for about 2 weeks. Dont sound like a bad deal to me

That does seem quite a long time, i thought 2 days maybe not 2 weeks??

I have just put mine up on ebay last night, starting at £10 with no reserve. Just type in MR2 border bumper and you should find it.... You might be interested

I saw a border bumper at the replikit stand at last years JAE. I dont know if they have changed them since then, but the one i saw was dreadful! I could lift 1 corner of the bumper a whole foot off the floor and the other side was still on the floor!! im pretty sure there was no bolt holes cut or nuts for the sides fibre-glassed in neither.

I got a genuine one in the end and OMG was there a difference!!
