[Mk2] [Turbo] URGENT Request re 5.25" Vibe Black Air

Post by gtech »

Looking at getting the vibe Black Air 5.25" which I THINK should fit without any messing around, however the mounting depth is 64mm and I've got no way of checking if this will be ok.

If anyone out there can advise, or even have access to the speaker area to measure, would be mucho appreciated.

Any comments on the Vibe Black Air also appreciated.

Thanks

I have answered you on talk audio lol but the 6.5" vibes will fit if you use a 15mm IIRC mdf spacer ring (I have 2 made in the garage I will measure tomorrow) as I have Vibe sek60's in my doors http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VIBE-SEK60-Kevlar ... 35a15a338b which have a 65mm mounting depth have a look here http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=120442 and one I did for another member here http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=117650.

I like what you've done with the OEM Speaker area, might give that a try. But speaker wise, to match up with the JBL Amp, I think I am gonna go with the JBL GTO 508C, which is a 5.25" speaker to save me having to mess around with MDF Rings (Woodwork is not my domain).

Hopefully going to mount the amp (JBL GTO75.4) on the firewall behind the driver, and hook this all up to my Pioneer DVH-5900DVD head unit.

Then time to do some reading up on setting it all up properly. Just got to hope the rain stays away.

What would you recommend for speaker cable.....I was going to order some of the Vibe Flat stuff!!

Thanks

I still had to make wooden adaptors very rough as you can see here http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=117650. to fit 5.25 and to be honest you will not get as good a sound from a 5.25 it is well worth going to 6.5 and no harder to fit. The most important thing about speakers is the fitting a well fitted poor speaker will sound better than a badly fitted really good speaker, the speaker needs to have a good baffle,
the baffle is the surface or structure on which the speakers or drivers are mounted. Its purpose is to prevent the front and rear sound waves from interfering with each other and causing cancellation which is why we use mdf rings this site will help you http://stephenmason.com/cars/mr2audio.html.

Hmmm maybe have a rethink about the 5.25" and maybe consider going to 6.5".......I will have a look at available speakers, cheers for the help

Just seen they do the same speakers in a 6.5" (GTO 6508C) so looks like thats the best option to go for.
