[Mk2] [NA] Rev 1 UK gearbox stuck in 4th!!!

Well, I suspect it's the selector that's given up, Went from 2nd to 3rd this morning, wouldn't go in 3rd so I tried 4th... in it went but when I went for 5th I realised the gearstick had gone all floppy and now only moves front to back, not side to side. It has no effect going front to back, feels like it's not connected anymore and is stuck in 4th all the time.

Pretty certain it's the selector arm or something as it drives fine in 4th and there are no bizarre noises.

So, common problems? Where should I be looking???

It will probably be the selector mechanism at the gearbox end mate.

Think its hard to see if you have the standard airbox, best looking from underneath but it needs to be on ramps or jacked up, probably doesnt help if you are stuck at work.
