[Mk2] [Generic] adding a drivers side sub to a rev 1

Post by newmr2owner »

so my mk2 rev1 only has a passenger side sub, behind the drivers seat is a lockable storage box.

I have today acquired a drivers sub from a rev 2 and want to wire it in. I have removed the box that is there at the moment and found no wiring for another sub.

I think im correct in saying that these are active subs and the amps are inside the boxes with the speakers??

If so I have the connectr to the box but were do I need to take the feed from, can I get one from the drivers side? maybe from the wires running to the rear speakers?? or do I need to splice from the passenger wires just before they run into that sub??

Help needed as I dont understand the speaker/wiring set up i the car????

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I had the same set-up, sub behind passenger seat.
Mine had only 1 connector for the 1 sub
The amplifier is behind the b- pillar trim passenger side (behind passenger seat belt)
The wiring is indeed very confusing, Not sure what if anything you can do here as theres only 1 connector for the sub.
I ended up ripping all the wiring out and started afresh.

hi, sorry for the long reply, doing loads of work to my car...

im at the system bit now...
and i dont like how its wired up to the speakers, and some dont seem to go anywhere, so...
i want to do the same and rip out the old wiring, amps, and replace with gold leads and a 2-4 channel amp, and do the same thing with a sub behind each seat, but in the original places, and in that cubby hole as i never use it...

has anyone got a good wiring diagram of how they did it and any good advise as i dont want to mod the interiour with oversized speakers just yet... plus the best places to use them sticky sound proofing mats if not just everywhere in the cabin?

like, a good replacement sub to fit the factory locations, or are the original ones good enough...?

plus what wires i can actually rip out completely... every gram counts when looking for power to weight :)
