All engines will fit but you may need to swap wiring looms etc. unless it's the same rev as your car (rev2 I'd guess). If it were me I'd be taking it back where I bought it though...
Hope you get it sorted and welcome to IMOC.

Amy
im not convinced that the na rev 1 2 or 3 are all that different
rev 4 is,

perhaps someone could confirm or deny this,

all revs are different but different things changed each time, sure theres a list of it some where but roughly:

rev 1 - start
rev 2 - handling and cosmetic chages
rev 3 - engine and cosmetic changes
rev 4 - cosmetic changes
rev 5 - handling and cosmetic changes

as for engines rev 1 and 2 are pretty much the same as are rev 3, 4 & 5

easiest way to check your rev is by the cosmetic stuff, rear grill and spoiler and interior, aswell as things like pas, abs and airbags, post a picture and a debate over it will start

Any reason you're not going to take it back from where you bought it from and demand your money back?

because its a private sale and was 'sold as seen' , sold in a working condition, to which the buyer was satisfied

Exact same thing happened to a car an ex bought a few years back. You've got no come back if its a private sale.

Try breakeryard.com, I sourced an engine from there and it was sound. Alternatively get a replacement engine from the same revision car. It should be a Rev2 being on a K plate. This should save any disrepancies between the looms.

you may find there are differences between the ecu's. Speak to the likes of Rogue for quick answer.

It's best like you say to just hold out for another rev2 NA engine, and then you can transfer the wiring loom from your old engine etc... saves alot of hassle :eye:

Yea for a like for like swap you should be able to expect <£150 for a full rev 2 engine and ancilliaries, ecu etc.

If you go rev 3+ then there's some wiring and ECU differences, the engines are different.

(correct me if I'm wrong but just so you know, BEAMS (gen4) are MAF whereas rev 3+ (gen3) is MAP, the rev 1/2 (gen 2) is AFM so each ECU is different but the wiring is very similar)

hey all,

ok,the engine Amy mentions for sale was from me,
its an L plate 3sge,with service history at toyota untill the last two years,
at which time it has been serviced locally by a reputable garage.
I have the service schedule and maintenance book showing cambelt change 17k miles ago at 57964,iirc.

The confusion arises because i thought it was rev 3 , but it appears to have the rev1 rev 2 manifold array,so im assuming it is rev 2.

I drove this car when it came into the yard, before it being hi-ab'd onto my drive, the engine is fine no smoke,no cream, and started 1st time even after two weeks standing.

Im a sucker for a damsel in distress and offered it to Amy for £50+carriage
Carriage charges for an engine are normally £80+vat,as im miles away in devon,
If you can get one closer Amy then that might be more cost efficient,
if not this one is now out and on a pallet,

regards

steve
